What happened to Yahoo Search Marketing's keyword selector tool?
I'd like to launch some ad campaigns on Yahoo and 2 of the tools I used via Yahoo seem to have vanished! One was their keyword selector tool that gave me a readout of the number of hits on the keyword & it's variations from the prior month & the other was similar in that it would show the top ten bidders for a particular keyword for that prior month and what they bid on that keyword. These were invaluable tools for anyone wanting to set up ad campaigns and needing feedback on possible costs and popularity of certain keywords! Can anyone help out there?

The "Halloween" Yahoo main page auto-types search terms in the search bar. It is soooo frustrating to continually backspace over the "ghostly" generated search terms that I've been using Google or Bing instead of Yahoo.   So the difference is the difference between optimisation of a website and marketing. This is something that should be intuitively clear.

  Optimisation means include meta data in the HTML of your web page, making sure your site is indexed with the major crawlers (search engines), making sure you have a robots file that lists all relevent pages on your site that you want indexed etc. Basically site stuff.

  Marketing (SEM) is where you actually spend a bit of money. And you research keywords and advertisting campaigns and spend money on getting ads / links / traffic to your site. This also involves perhaps having special landing pages etc

  I have not tried Panama, but in answer to your question about which place to advertise, consider these things. Firstly you are using Yahoo answers so you are already accessing Yahoo and if you were searching etc you would do it through Yahoo. not change to google. You might want to consider advertising on both and see what the results are. I don't know what your product or service is. You should research the demographics of both to see if one is more suited to your target market. You could also contact a company that has already advertised and see what their results were.

How can I better optimize my website for more traffic?
I am a beginner but have learned a lot about search engine optimization (SEO). We have worked on Google AdWord campaigns, Yahoo! Search Marketing, and used Google Analytics. We used a broad search as well as an industry specialized search, which has obviously been more cost effective.

I have recently submitted our company and link to multiple industry directories with higher PageRank than ours. I have used free keyword tools found in AdWords, Analytics, and Search Marketing, respectively, as well as the free tool on wordtracker.

Also, we have recently created static pages to our web site for added content. Hopefully our recent steps (directory submission, upping our bids in PPC programs, and creating content based pages) will work.

  I would agree with the previous post. Make your site for people not search engines.

  A few SEO tips.
  A unique title tag on each page would be a plus
  Don't worry too much about your page rank. What your are after is improved rankings in the search engine results.
  What keywords are you targeting? My suggestion -- if you are having success with PPC then see which keywords are bringing you the most sales and then begin to optimize your site for those terms.
  You should consider adding even more content to your site this will reduce code bloat. Optimal # to shoot for here is 20% of the info in your source to be code and the rest content.

  Another thought...begin to optimize your site for the specific products that you offer. So that way when I go to Google and search for a specific power adapter your site will show. The way to do that is content and editing some of the other on page SEO factors like a title tag.

I was annoyed to find that YAHOO's marketing staff posed the question so that MARK BURNETT could answer it. Another search for Mark Burnett revealed several more questions from Anonomous users that Mark answered.

Does anyone else think that Yahoo is exploiting their own tools to stage scenarios with advertisers instead of simply encouraging Mark to INTERACT with the community?

  Actually the question was posed by a person of the community and when Mark Burnett wanted to answer a question we searched for one that we thought would fit. This question was asked at a time when the racial divide on Survivor was very controversial and even made the cover of many magazines. We also had him answer a question because we have gotten lots of feedback saying it would be more helpful to have an answer from a celebrity or somebody "in the know" then to have them ask a question. I hope this explains how his answer came about.

Before the outage, the same procedure I've followed for five years has worked. And now, all of a sudden, it doesn't. I'm befuddled as to what could be going on. As a customer, I can relate more info in 30 seconds to a good Help Desk employee than the seller can ask of me to accomplish in ten minutes (of my time) by following their non-intractive links.   Sometimes, during a storm or power outage, you computer will get "zapped". Even though you may have a surge protector, you may still be at risk. What I'm trying to say is, your hard drive may have been hit...if so, you may have bad sectors on your drive which are usually associated with a damaged disk. If you are -at all- computer savvy, I would recommend running check disk...even better, research what kind of drive you have and get the appropriate (if you don't already have it) diagnostics program and run a full scan on your drive.

  Now, this may not be the problem at all, but with computers, unfortunately, there are always "too many variables" to consider.

  By your explanation, this is the only thing that I can think of (off the top of my head). I'm curious: Are you able to paste anything at all? What about pasting text from other sources? Can you copy/paste using Notepad?

What is the big deal about spam?
I just dont get what the big fuss is about spam? Why is spam being targeted so ferociosly; especially when untargeted advertising is a common theme in biz marketing practices. Consumers are forced to: watch commercials, banner ads on the websites they visit, text ads when doing a simple search on a search engine, postcards and junk mail from direct marketers etc

So what makes email so special? If I have a website that does real business and I buy a list of emails to spread the word about my business, why should I worry about "being punished" for doing that.

What really gets me is that small time entreprenuers who are in business themselves are some of the main people pushing the idea about spam.

To me its like saying, youd rather pay Google and Yahoo $$$ for PPC--

So its ok to advertise endlessly if you pay for it. Is ok to pay for cable tv but still have to watch commercials. Spam can disappear with just a click of your mouse. I get spam too most of them go to my bulk folder. I bulk folder about once aweek, scan it for anything good then click trash.

  There is a difference, TV ad and banner on websites are paid advertisement, spams, however, are not. When ads are shown on TV, I choose to watch TV, or visit internet website for that matter. Spam, on the other hand, are unexpected advertisment that I don't care about, they fill my mail box and cluster my normal email.

I thought for a bit that "Yahoo Answers" was a really useful tool for us all. But then I began to read some of the questions. It almost seems that most of them are just kiddy babble, bordering on the mentality of the everyday chat room. Do you think Yahoo knew this when they started this? Just a while ago I saw a question "How long do Guinea pigs live?" I thought, well I'll just Google it and get the answer, as this sort of question should have loads of hits and answers. Whats wrong with my computer?
My home page is set to Yahoo. When I type something in the search bar and it brings up the results, I try to click on the site I want to look at and That site dosnt come up. What comes up is another search site like toseeka or monster market place or finding tool...... When I try to back out of it to go back to the yahoo search it wont let me it just stays on that screen..... Ive tried searching through google and msn and it does the same thing. Ive ran my anti virus and it cant find anything.... Ive gone through and deleted all my temporary internet files and cookies thinking it was something in there...... MLM Lead System Pro does it work?
I am trying to sell herbal products and i really need to know how to generate leads besides flyers all over town. Everytime i hit a search engine i have noticed that i get an email saying buy this etc to generate leads. I also notice it may not be the same company but the same gimmick. Can someone advise if they used the MLM Lead System pro and got some decent results. From what I am gathering it looks like you are promoting their business and barely your own.   You are correct to be skeptical. The "Lead System" won't bring any actual buyers to your herbal-products website. You might get some visits by "bots" but no real human beings. It is a waste of your money.

  The explosion in the number of websites has made it difficult to find buyers for any products. Then there is the worst economic conditions in 70 years.

  You do not need any software to promote your website. It won't work.

  Make up bumper stickers with your website name. Pass them out to friends. If you have a good diet, call the Dr.Phil and Dr. Oz television shows and offer to appear.

  Your objective: Hopefully you are tweaking this to be specific to every job you are applying for. If I received this objective for a teller position, I wouldn't call for an interview either. The number one mistake I see is people too lazy to tailor each resume they send out. Blanket resumes get tossed in my office.

  Education: I typically like to see education at the bottom. It is a personal preference, but I like seeing your skills and what you have to offer BEFORE where you went to school. While education is important, you aren't selling your education. You're selling what you know. I might not advertise a 3.0 GPA. I typically advise people not to put it on there unless you're 3.5 and up.

  Relevant Coursework: My MAJOR pet peeve is people that just list the courses just like you have. Please take the time to write a quick one sentence summary of what you gained from these classes. When you tell me "Portfolio Analysis" -- what special skills did you learn in that class that I can USE. Does that make sense? I would rather read: "Portfolio Analysis - Curriculum focused on the usage of multiple online and software programs such as blah, blah, blah to provide better portfolio analysis to future customers." I know nothing about finance, so I know my sentence makes no sense, but hopefully you get the gist. Tell your future employer what software/management tools/etc you learned in these classes. It WILL catch their eye. Sell your knowledge. You aren't selling your knowledge by just listing it.

  Skills: Cut the fat. Every one boasts that they are honest, organized, motivated, multi-tasking. I don't want to read personal qualities. Fill that in with more USABLE skills. Honesty is not a skill. It is a quality. Same with motivated. You should be listing what office machines you have experience with. Are you familiar with multi-line phones, fax machines, etc. Do you know Quicken? Any other business related software?

  Projects: I might re-title this to "Educational Experience" or something else along those lines. "Projects" would mislead one into thinking you had professional experience and that might set some people off.

  Work Experience - The big no-no for me is not putting current employment experience first. Always start with your present work experience, in my opinion.

  Then...find a way to fit it all on one page. I can tell by looking at this that it is probably two pages long. Hope that helps, or at least inspires you. Good luck. It isn't the worst I've seen

My partner and I have been working for the past year and a half developing a marketing system to help promote local businesses in a certain niche market (sorry wont say what the niche is). But when we go to pitch our service we are running into problems. First this is what we do:

Basically we have developed a website much akin yellow pages which only caters towards this niche, over the past year and a half we have become highly optimized for almost every category in the niche ranking in the top 3 spots in Google Yahoo and Bing (MSN). (outranking even yellowpages, yelp, yellowbook and others)

However we are not only offering a subscription into the directory (which gives the clients more exposure). We build each client a website, they get to choose their domain name, we create a custom classified advertisements to use, and we promote their businesses through Google Adwords, (this is done by having adwords drop the click through onto their listing page on our site.) In addition we give the clients access to a backend where they can track how many impressions their classified ads recieve, how many clickthroughs to their website, and a host of other statistical tools.

This is above and beyond yellowpages, in fact many clients we talk to say they spend 150-300 a month on yellowpages and recieve NO results.

We have a few clients who are very satisfied with the service, and it has helped them land additional business. In fact for most of our clients, only 1 job from a lead covers a months charge or more, and we only charge /mo promotional rate for 6 months then it goes to /mo from there.

Now here is the problem we face when trying to get new clients.... Many of you may have been cold called and pitched by some internet search engine optimization company that promises that they can get you on the front page of Google for a fee.. Most of those companies are shady and provide no results. For some reason when we start talking to people this is what they think we are doing... when in fact this is NOT what we are doing at all!

I'm kind of at a how I can effectively market our service without being confused as one of these shady businesses. Since this is not what we are doing.

Some months ago.. google allowed users to ad a code to the their source page which allowed me to 'drill' down into a campaign I am tracking, then further into groups and then into the groups wherein I could view my keywords that are in my Google Adwords groups. From here, I could set parameter to 'user defined'. This would allow me to see the actual keyword searches customers were typing which were linking up to my ad group keywords.
This is an amazing tool for parsing out negative keywords to ad to groups as well as new positive performing keywords to ad. I have been paying about 0 a month for a software named ClickLab. We started setting up all of our marketing campaigns to be tracked by Google Analytics: Yahoo, MSN and a host of marketing feeds = Price Graber, Google Products, Shopzilla etc.
I swear at first I could drill down to the levels described above with for all of those accounts; I had told my employer he could drop ClickLab since we now had that level of scrutiny for free through Analytics. Now.. I can only drill down into Google groups. I can now only drill down as far as group level for all non google campaigns. Furthermore.. I can no longer get ecommerce data for non google campaigns = conversion rate, revenue per conversion and conversions.

1) What's the point of them allowing us to track other campaigns if we can't see performance stats?
2) Is anyone out there familiar with this scenario?
3) Does anyone know how to get around to doing with my non google campaigns what I can now only do with google groups = get down to the level where I can view actual customer keyword searches?

In my field, I've hired people with degrees and with none. Anecdotally, degree-less workers always seem to work harder than the degreed who seem to feel as though the world owes them something.

QUESTION:
Problems with Yahoo in IE 6 & 7?
I have 3 PCs - each set-up differently, and years appart. Anyway - I've noticed that over the months, the Yahoo site (UK & US) have layout/data issues on all 3 machines when visited using Internet Explorer, versions 6 and 7.

The problem is, the spaces where Market Place, Yahoo travel, and Popular Searches should be, appear completely blank. All I get is Borders where they should appear. Using FireFox, all is as should be.

Now, I might be ahead of some of you; I'm not a great fan of IE, and I'm not a cyber-pimp for FF, but this strange effect has led me to ask this question.

I have Java & JavaScript enabled for IE & FF, so it isn't a Java issue. Also, I've no Anti-Advert software or add-ons running.

Has anyone else noticed this, and if so, have you an answer for why this has happened to IE with Yahoo recently?

  Ah now that's funny. I use IE7. I tried Firefox and thought it was a load of rubbish. I found I could do less with it compared to IE, but of course that's a personal opinion.

  However you mentioning Java. I get around a lot on the Internet and when I get a problem that IE says it has to close, the problem is always Java or Java Script. I read a lot newspapers and news sites on line and this is where I get my problem. Now I find that strange because it's fully up to date.

  Having said that I don't get problems anywhere else. I've looked for a solution but have drawn a blank. When it happens I just put it down as an annoyance cause you go straight back to the site and it wont happen again.

  Let's face it computers do strange things that nobody else gets and there is no rational explanation for it!

  To be honest our commercial properties are renting well now - we had a really stagnant period before Christmas, but have very little available now - we don't have huge industrial premises though, just small quirky shop type units and we have rented recently to a hair salon, tattooist, picture framers/photographers, florist ....... so I would say the market is moving.

  1. Key in the full domain in Yahoo, if it is indexed it will come up near the top of the search i.e. your whole domain SponsorSimonHilton.com - I had a quick look and yes it is listed so all OK there.

  2. For future reference it is very simple to submit a site to Yahoo, just enter this link https://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit and go direct to Yahoo to submit, you don't need to use a fancy programme. Job done! Be patient it can take a few weeks or so before it appears. To speed things up it definitely helps to get a link back to your site from an already indexed site, so talk sweetly to any friends you might have with a site already up an running.

Hi, I need to research the following via Google or Yahoo!

We have a data integration solution for Salesforce.com customers called Informatica Cloud. This is the market leader etc and if we can get through to people who are either responsible for or administer their company's Salesforce.com implementation, we can usually have a meaningful conversation with them about integration.

Specifically, we are looking for people on LinkedIn with the word "salesforce" or "salesforce.com" in their profile. We are looking for people in the UK or Ireland.

I have had the most success searching for public profiles using Google but if you can do a better job using LinkedIn advanced search, that's fine. I will leave it up to you. The following Google query is a good starting point as it pulls back Uk LinkedIn profiles.

Why is the Lego Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyer for ages 16+?
Surely a 10 year old can have as much fun/trouble with this as a 16 yr old. Is this a marketing trick?A typo?

  My guess for the main reason that the Lego Imperial Star Destroyer (Lego item 10030) is marked for ages 16+ is that it is really huge - over 3,100 pieces and is more than 3 feet long. It could be that a project this big might be a lesson in patience for ten year old but perhaps a teenager would be more patient, or less likely to lose pieces. It could also be that 3,100 legos might actually be heavy for some ten year olds to lift - when moving the box or the finished assembly. Because the set is so big and heavy, building it requires properly building the load-bearing structure on the inside to hold it all together (it's still made out of legos). I think it also uses some Technic type pieces, which are a step up from regular Lego bricks).

  The Lego Death Star II is also marked as 16+ - probably for the same reason - it has more than 3,400 pieces. Some of the other Lego Ultimate Collector Series Star Wars sets are marked 14+ (Y-Wing and AT-ST).

  They also set higher age suggestions on these items so that people don't confuse them with the Star Wars lego kits designed for 7-12 year olds that perhaps have a tenth as many pieces.

  A ten year old who is accomplished with Legos could enjoy these complicated sets as much as a teenager. However it might not make for a good "first" Lego kit for a ten year old.

The employer gave me a # after a couple of e-mails discussing the validity of his business. I wanted to make sure it wasn't a scam or fraud since it was a work at home job over the internet that required access to the internet and a telephone.

His grammar wasn't that great but, then again, my spelling wasn't the best.

How do I use his DUNS # to verify that he is indeed a small business? Can DUNS #'s be exploited for scams? How else can I verify this employer isn't a scammer? Like how can I make sure the payments for this work are legit? How do I make sure I get paid for a job like this? By the way, it's a part time job. He says he lives in the UK and comes to the US every 5-6 months. His business does, and I quote, "organize[s] conference[s], seminars, trade shows with group of partners. [Censored for privacy] also engages in Marketing, Advertising, Consultancy and ForEx/Stock management."

When searching for a job, most sites warn you to stay away from work from home jobs and stuff like that. However, I do need a job and this part time job seems easy. He seems a bit more legit than a scammer at this point but I want to make sure 100% he's for real and legit.

  DUNS is not going to tell you whether or not this is a legitimate business, only that he has a DUNS number. Better to do some research through a Chamber of Commerce, Better Business Bureau, ask him for business references who can speak to his ability to do what he says, ask where he is incorporated and contact the state where he legally does business from and ask about complaints.

I just have one question. What kind of super-strong brain killing blunt have you been smoking?

I have seen topics lately (While searching on China's new status in the trade-market) I always come across topics about "USA vs European Union" wars. Which is pointless in the first place, since for starters, the United Kingdom and the United States are as close allies as can be. Second, the Americas need the Europeans as much as they need Americas.

But what tics me off a bit is all the Americans (mostly the US based ones) jumping to conclusions that the United States 1 - 1.5 million army would so easily defeat the European Union's 6 million man army (which is the European union's combined army).

And YET, you also forget other factors.

Since the most likely cause of a war between the two friends could only erupt if the US attacks first. Since there is no way EU would try to take on the US.

Here are the missing factors:

(1. Europe has a binding contract, that if attacked by a large common enemy to the EU they must protect each other.
That means, you will not only face EU's 6mil army, but also the rest of Europe.

(2. The Europeans are and the Americans are at about the same level when it comes to technology. Except for the US's Abrams and their splendid Navy that will stop the EU from invading American soil. But the thing is, the UK has a small Navy that is high-tech and just about as well trained as the US's that will prevent them from entering close European borders.

(3. Have you forgotten Russia in all of this? Russia is the world's second or third strongest force, they have around 18,000 nuclear bombs and the strongest non-nuclear bombs in the world. And they ARE a part of Europe. Although mother Russia consider itself a lone great power. If an all-out war erupts in Europe, that will but Russia's land and borders in grave danger. And who do you think the giant will side with? Its rival, the United States. Or the continent it considers its home, the Europeans? That adds another 1 million soldiers and thousands of nuclear bombs to the EU's already 6 million strong advanced army.

And if the US decides to end it all by nuking Europe. That will REALLY harm Russia, which will force the Russians to retaliate. And if Putin still has a word in the game, it wont only be one, but hundreds, or even thousands.
As well as the United Kingdom and France have nukes. Although their nukes won't reach US soil, it will definitely destroy their Navy near Europe.

And China, in all of this, if she enters, this war will definitely grow to the point where probably 80% of the world's population would die due to end results in nuclear war. Even so if China is a peace loving country, and chooses to say out of most wars. If she would decide to enter, it would side with Russia since they train their armies together, and the Chinese are really starting to hate the US for pushing their limits regarding the Yuan, etc. And the Chinese has a standing army at 3.5 million soldiers and a reserve army at 1.2 million.

So, for all you people who feel this war will be a peace of cake. Think twice.
A war like this would mean the utter destruction of the entire world economy, as well as the US and Europe, and maybe even the world's population may come to an end.

And the worst thing in all of this. There are already some anti-European groups in the US who has already shown great curiosity in a war like this. For your and everyone else's sake. Hope it never happens and stop asking these questions. I SEE THEM ALL OVER YAHOO

I've been trying to see if yahoo has a desktop search to accompany their excellent widget engine. To date, what I can piece together, is that they partnered with "x1" to release a beta "yahoo YDS" in 2005 but that the beta expired and no product was released. What I can't figure is if this was because of Vista and YDS is simply delayed or if Yahoo has ceded the desktop search market to google.

Yes I saw the same article about googles market share++ BUT Yahoo stilll has MILLIONS of users, also the numbers are scewed, you have to compare europe/Asia/NA Yahoo's market share seems to be better in NA and the Google ++ mkt share seems to reflect Europe. I haven't found any schools in California that I can enroll in an MBA because they all require you work first, average age of entrance is normally 27-28 with 4-6 years of work experience. Unless I do an online degree which I wouldnt want to do.

  It's a frustrating job market out there for marketing folks, no doubt. When companies have to trim their budgets, marketing positions are often the first to be cut.

  You're on the right track. Here's my advice for you: ask yourself a) what you're good at and b) what you really want to do. Then seek out job opportunities that fit either of those criteria - they might not be labeled "marketing" but will give you valuable experience. For instance, I have a writing background and I ended up with a great marketing job in online copywriting. As for SEO, you can learn that on the job -- but they'll be more apt to hire you if you're trying to learn it on your own. Read a book about SEO, get a site, experiment with it. Good luck!

  There are more managerial positions right now because companies are hurting, so they need to up the anty in their marketing efforts. They fire one manager and hire a new one hoping for better results.

  I don't know that getting your MBA will pay off right now. It's been my experience that having a masters of any sort doesn't pay off until 10 years of real life experience. It's impressive to the hiring managers, but they won't pay you more for it generally, unless you have experience. Yeah, a catch 22.

  Do research on what cities are doing the most hiring right now, most of them are in the mid west or plains states. Also, look in Washington state, it's got a low unemployment rate. The unemployment rate in California is high right now, and companies know they can get experienced talent for cheap.

This is really confusing...years ago there was this product being sold over the counter by Phamanex called Cholestine. Now I see that Costco is offering a product in tablet form called Red Yeast and I went to yahoo search and I see that red yeast is being sold as a 'supplement'. But it is mentioning also about the Cholestine that cannot be sold and also that red yeast does have what the statin drugs have in it,so any red yeast only should be taken under a doctor's guidance. So this is all confusing..is it or isn't it ok to take over the counter..and is it or isn't it actually a drug?

For those who are aware of ALL the MANY sheep by-products that are made and sought after . AND who know first hand about how a sheep farm operates. . PLEASE educate me on how a small town - fairly large- (?) sheep business can tap into the market? If you do a Yahoo search for "sheep by-products", the first site that appears talks about all the uses for the ENTIRE sheep carcass. They began with the intestines for sausage casing, etc. - Obviously your average Joe Sheep Farmer cant provide a sterile environment for the sheep to live in or die in, wouldn't that probably be required - for most if not all the sheep by-products discussed?!?. Does cause of death/age/carcass condition/etc. also play a major role in whether the sheep farmer can find an interested buyer/market. EXAMPLE: its lambing season, many ewes are already old and die of a variety of pregnancy related causes, some have delivered already and carcass wise don't "look" very bad. Others could be pregnant/bloated/etc./ETC! - pretty gruesome appearing I guess. Then there are droves of newborn lambs who die from various reasons, some sick - some healthy.   by-products are leftovers from the meat industry, not sheep that die of natural causes. first of all there are two types of sheep farms... wool farms and meat farms. sheep raised for wool obviously are not your intention since you mention carcass quality etc. sheep are raised by the producer and sold, then slaughtered. farmers don't handle the slaughter aspect of sheep farming. that is all done by the buyer. it's not really possible for a farmer to make money on by-products because the animal is sold as a whole for one set price to the processor. it's up to the processor to cut the carcass and market the parts. the farmer is done once the animal leaves his property. in the US you cannot use dead animals in the public/commercial food industry. if the animal is dead before it reaches a slaughter facility it goes to a rendering plant and gets turned into things like leather, pet food, glue, cosmetics, soap, etc... things that are not going to be directly eaten by humans. a farmer could sell dead animals to a rendering plant for an extremely low price, but it's not really going to make a profit. farmers of anything do not sell directly to product makers/retailers. they sell to wholesale operations, feedlots, or slaughter houses. wholesale/feedlots/etc are the ones responsible for moving the product to packagers or retailers once it has been slaughtered, prepared, packaged, etc... people can get animal manure free all day long! there are very few places or people that will pay for any type of manure. sheep manure isnt good for fertilizing because it's high in amonia and nitrogen which will fry most nursery plants. people that pay for manure usually want cow manure. farming is not a huge money making venture! start up costs like land, equipment, labor, etc are VERY expensive! there is so much more to the industry that i can properly describe here. email me with further specific questions! -

  I have a lot of experience marketing small companies online (I have 3 companies). One of the best ways is to sign up at business directories and protals. These are basically listings of businesses (simliar to the phone book). The advantage is that these portals usually get a lot of traffic and they're ranked high on Google because of all the quality links they contain.

  My favorite portal is called Directory Exclusive. I signed up a few weeks ago because they're giving a away a free business card holder when a person enter's their company info. I received it in the mail 3 days ago =)

Wireless RS232 Link?
Hi people.

I am currently doing a school final project for my graduation.
However, i have started off by purchasing products from X-10 as I am building a Home Automation System. As I have to be more hands on instead of just bringing products, my team have decided on building our own Wireless RS232 Link from the computer to the control module of the X-10 Automation System.

It is actually a serial port connection which i need. However, i would like the control module to be hidden somewhere and to connect the laptop to the control using a wireless serial port connection. Hence, naming it Wireless RS232 Link.

I have been searching Yahoo! and Google for the whole night and I all got in return was off market products and more off market products.

Can anybody help by providing the schematics for the Wireless RS232 link or suggestions?

Why does Yahoo allow obvious scams to be posted as ads on YA?
Every time I see an ad on YA, it's for a product that's well-known to be a scam: penny stocks, acai berry, "miracle" muscle-growth supplements. For example, I see the "John Bell wants to share his secrets on hacking the stock market" ad every single day, yet a cursory search online will show it's a complete scam and impossible to implement.

Is Yahoo not responsible for the ads on here? Are they being handled by some third party?
scurvy - no company is forced to let someone advertise on their site unless they already have a contract.

  I brought up this very topic on the Suggestions board a few months back. I was frustrated that some of the spammers we all report seem to advertise freely.

  It turns out that some of Yahoo's advertising space is sold to consolidators, who then sell it to others. So Yahoo claims to not have direct control (or even direct contact) with some advertisers.

  In addition to Thumbs Up/Down and Report Abuse, there is also the Spam Battle Thread on the suggestions area. If an account is 100% commercial spam, you can report the entire account instead of individual questions and answers.

And he had always chosen well even while most of his contemporaries had been expressing disillusionment with the interview as a medium of getting the right candidate for the right job.
The secret of his success lay in a technique he had worked to perfection. As a candidate walked in for an interview, Das would quickly size him up for a first impression. Subsequently, the whole tenor of his questioning over the period of the interview would be aimed at destroying that impression. If the first impression was favourable and if it persisted till the end of an interview or if an unfavourable impression turned otherwise by the end, Das had an intuitive feeling that he had a good candidate on his hands. Of course, the assessment already made by the concerned divisional head regarding specific job requirements would be a major benchmark in the final selection of a candidate.
Das knew, however, that if he had chosen people well, it was not because of any particular skill but because he was simply lucky.
That morning, as he looked at the folder lying in his desk, Das wondered whether he was finally running out of luck. The folder contained dossiers of two candidates who have been interviewed at various levels over the previous month. As a part of the final assessment, Das himself had met them individually an hour ago. Both were internal candidates, presently working as sales executives and seeking promotion to the post of the sales manager to be based at the head office of the company. Both were highly recommended by the company’s vice – president (sales) for the post.
The first dossier was of Prem Sagar who had been with Chemtech for five years. Sagar had worked his way up and understood the company’s product and their markets. He was very keen to take on new responsibilities. The second was of Arvind Vardhan who had joined the company only the previous year. He seemed confident, sensitive to others points of view, a self starter, and a good team player. Das’s maiden impression was that Vardhan was a natural salesperson and it persisted, however hard he tried to disprove himself. He was clearly in favour of Vardhan.
It was when he was about to terminate the interview that Vardhan said “Mr. Das, there is something that I think I must mention in all fairness. But before I do so, I need to have your word that what I tell you will remain between the two of us.” You have my word,” said Das. “ I have been declared HIV positive,” said Vardhan, “the tests came last week.
If Das panicked, he did not show it. “ I don’t see how it can affect your chances of promotion,” he said, in a voice that, much to his own surprise, lacked conviction. “ I think we should talk about this separately,” he continued, trying hard to retain composure. “ I will get back to you. In the meantime, take care.”
Later, alone in his cabin, Das found the burden of having to make a decision lying heavily upon him. The company’s standing orders stated that no physical disability or even a chronic health problem should come in the way of a promotion as long as it does not interfere with a performance directly. But there were two major issues, as Das saw them. First, although the HIV infected people were known to work productively for years, the risk of developing active AIDS at any point of time was real. Recovery from even a temporary about of illness such as pneumonia for example, would be longer, reducing the pace of work and affecting performance on the job. I've been doing some marketing for awhile now, and came across Netbannerads.com - Actually, they had e-mailed me and let me know that I may not have some keyword on my site, etc. After speaking with someone over there, I asked how Google!, Yahoo, and MSN would allow them to have a website appear on top of their listings. This is where things get tricky.

They deal with outsourced non-affiliate, non-partnering 'active x attacking' companies. Those companies install 3rd party software on your computer (Kind of like those annoying pop-up windows you mindlessly click 'ok' to). Once the software is installed, and you utilize Google!, Yahoo, or MSN to search for something, the 3rd party software will display the person owning the 'keyword's website on TOP of the search listings.

More in depth > If I search for "Toyota", in stead of getting Toyota's Advertisement First (Which I'm sure they paid good money for), I'll get Larry's Toyota Dealership in New Brunswick, NJ. appearing on top of everything, with my actual search listings far below this.

I think there might even be some infringement here - not only on a user side, but on the policies governing advertising rights on these sites.

If anyone can show a moral, or ethical stand point here that advises to use Netbannerads.com (absolving from the picture the marketing and money aspect of this) I'd be greatly appreciated.

Also, in general, it's about 00-00 a year to own a 'word' or 'phrase', which could be seen as many as 30,000 times a month, and clicked-free-of-charge. In comparison to Google!'s AdWords, which can cost up to per click, and when you're looking to up #'s, and not to sell a product, Netbannerads.com seems VERY cost effective.

These companies may know more about your habits than your spouse! The data is so valuable, Microsoft is willing to buy Yahoo for a ridiculous price. The data is so valuable, that it's making TV advertising wasteful (i.e. it broadcasts to a majority of people not interested in the product being sold).

It can be used beyond marketing. Big brother is watching? Is Corporate America taking away your freedom?

Earlier in 2009 there was a video that talked about the effects of a high-level electromagnetic pulse on the U.S. population. I have a new invention that I would like to inform the population about.

My invention is in the category of a high-level EMP - Electromagnetic Pulse – attenuation system that was built to stop the effects of a high-level EMP from reaching electronic equipment. It is in no way related to a Faraday Cage except the fact that it is meant to stop an EMP. The electronics stored inside a Faraday Cage cannot be used unless a generator is running inside the cage. My system allows wires to run into the cage so that the components inside will run continuously during an EMP. To date, no wires can run into a Faraday Cage due to their conductivity. Even wire shielding cannot protect the components because the high voltages induced will spark through the thin shielding. Layering plastic will only make transmission lines heavier. With my system, enterprise stations can continue running without having to shutdown before an EMP. Without my system, major electronic systems will either be destroyed or shutdown temporarily to avoid possible damage.

If the stock market had to shutdown for a few hours the points would fall quickly. My invention has been tested to 50,000 volts and still climbing. I believe my invention is something that will attract the interest of major power stations, server farms, and high-power building due to the possibility of an EMP attack at any time over the U.S. Why else would countries allow the U.S. to continue spending despite its debt?

One example of an application is with Bloom Energy. With my product working with Bloom, we will not only deliver cost effective energy, but we will also protect major corporations from dangerous over voltages. eBay and Google are prime examples.

A couple of years ago I was using yahoo marketing solutions for search . Since then my account was sitting idle and few buck on it too. Last year I have discovered that Microsoft bought Yahoo and stopping(or stopped - don't know - since I don't use it anymore) the yahoo marketing solutions service and offers the refund the money. In the beginning the Internet was but a confusing mass of documents. Finding information, by searching the World Wide Web, was nearly impossible until the first search engines came along. Early search engines were like rudimentary life-forms (Remember Yahoo! Search and Alta Vista?).

They got the job done, but as more people gained access to the web, their limitations and dependence on the information that content creators put on so-called meta tags (strings of text that identified the content of the page in the source code) meant that such engines were liable to be abused.

Into this fast-expanding, yet messy space came Google. To cut a long story short, what Google did was organise information a lot better. Instead of depending on the text of a web page to determine the search results, it determined the page's influence using a variety of factors-including how many times a page had been viewed or linked to. From those early days, Google made searching the Internet reliable and over the past decade has grown into the behemoth it is today.

But there is more to the Internet than Google and more to search as well. Microsoft's CEO Steve Ballmer told BT five years ago that Google was just a flash in the pan, as Microsoft readied its (then) latest search engine. Microsoft did not get too far then, but laid the foundation for an effort that churned out Bing, its search engine launched last year. The engine uses a process similar to Google's 'PageRank' algorithm and gets a boost from technology tailored to throw up relevant results. The result: it has garnered one-fourth market share in the United States.

Google is not standing still. "In the early days, much of the Internet was static, your 'web crawlers' would go out every few days, sometimes even weeks to find information. Today, in the age of Twitter, the Internet happens in 'real time' and we have to reflect that," said Amit Singhal, a Google Fellow, present at the company's recent Science of Search conference in Tokyo.

The way it delivers this is complex: New search technologies look for statistical patterns while determining the importance of one particular tweet message over thousands of others as well as the number of followers the person who wrote that tweet has. Juxtapose the volume of tweets - 2.7 million every hour-and the brute force of the new technology and servers that power it become apparent. That and Google's focus on search helps it stay top dog despite challenges in China (Baidu is No. 1) and Japan (Yahoo! is ahead in popularity).

Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have spoken of their fears of being ousted by a newcomer. That challenge could come in the form of the likes of Wolfram Alpha, which queries a structured database for answers. So, ask it about the 16th President of the United States and it throws up not a link but a page of facts on Abraham Lincoln. A couple of years ago I was using yahoo marketing solutions for search . Since then my account was sitting idle and few buck on it too. Last year I have discovered that Microsoft bought Yahoo and stopping(or stopped - don't know - since I don't use it anymore) the yahoo marketing solutions service and offers the refund the money. I have spend almost hour on the phone by calling to Microsoft to get transferred to Yahoo and back to Microsoft to arrange the refund back to my account. They told me to wait for the money cheque and also promised to refund me money back to my paypal account. Two months later - still not cheque nor money on paypal account. I don't believe Microsoft does not have 60 USD to refund, but easily believe they don't care. I used a visa check card 2 years ago to fund my internet marketing search account with Yahoo... I had a balance sitting in the account for 0... I closed my account that was associated with that check card over a year ago.

8000$ tax credit for 1st time home buyers?
I heard there is a new condition for the tax credit/refund. I do not know if it is true or not. So, I decided I will put it up to yahoo answers to get some help. Since, there are so many flippers now, is it true that the house has to be on the market for at least 90 days before you can get the 8000$. This is to avoid people buying up property, flipping it, and then making a good chunk of change. But, I looked on FHA website and can't find any information about this. I also did a Google search and can't find any information either. Thanks.

  It is for a first time homebuyer only. IF you have not purchased a home before, and do so before Dec 31, you get the tax credit. 99% of flippers wouldn't qualify for it because they are not first time home buyers.
